First Snow

Just some random brain squeezings ...

I was all impressed a couple of hours ago because the First Snow happened this morning/afternoon; and technically is still going on. Big floofy snowflakes, alternating between floating lazily around and flying sideways.
It was really gorgeous. Well, once I got back inside from running an errand. VERY cold. Very slushy/sleet-like. But gorgeous from inside.

My buddy Josh stopped by on his lunch break. Commented briefly on the snow, and I looked down and noticed he was in shorts and a sweatshirt. Ahh. You gotta love a native Michigander.

Anyway, so I've been sitting inside (where it is markedly warmer than outside) and watching this really great snow storm thing, and off and on watching tv laid out on the couch with the dog unit and letting my brain wander around.

You ever notice how few times in our lives we manage to say goodbye to the right things at the right times? Like, we're so busy preparing to say goodbye to something and if we were psychic we'd realize that we're actually getting all ready to say goodbye to the completely wrong thing.
Stuff just has a way of being strange like that sometimes.

And sometimes our lives are getting ready to change is so many ways, and we never see it coming, because we're looking in another direction altogether. You know what I mean? Then we have to act all surprised, and it was going on around us all the time, if we had just been paying attention to the right things.

Weird, huh?

Huh.
I just surfed over to the weather site and here's the update from my previously mentioned First Snow with the lazily floating flakes ... to .. um .. well, here. Have a look yourself.

"... Winter Storm Warning in effect until 1 am EST Thursday...

The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a Winter
Storm Warning. This replaces the Snow Advisory which was in
effect.

Moderate to heavy snow will continue through the rest of the
afternoon and this evening. Visibility will be reduced to less than
a quarter of a mile and to near zero at times in heavy snow and
blowing snow. Snowfall rates of an inch an hour are likely with
rates of two inches per hour common in the heaviest snow bands.
Total snow accumulations of 5 to 9 inches are likely across the
warning area. This will create dangerous travel conditions.

Severe winter weather conditions are imminent. If you have
Holiday travel plans and must travel... keep an extra flashlight...
food... and water in your vehicle in case you become stranded."

Huh.

Well, that's a little over-achieving for a First Snow, eh?
